Shower pan and vases

July 15, 2013

While Grisha’s parents were visiting, his dad helped him build, mix and pour a cement shower pan for our master bathroom. It really helps make the layout feel so much more real. Since they have left, Grisha has added the shower plumbing. We had a very wet does-the-plumbing-work-test because we didn’t realize which knobs were off and which were on. Everything survived though. In case you are disoriented looking at the shower, below is an annotated picture.

While I was not in the least bit helpful in constructing the shower pan, I did use some of the left over mortar. I rounded up some plastic cups and broken flower pots to fill with mortar and make a few vases. I used an old test tube to make the hole for the flowers (because our garden is finally flowering!!). The vases ended up leaving behind little concrete-dust-specks, so I lined the bottoms with felt and it fixed the problem. I can feel a storm of concrete-projects brewing in my mind.

Wow it’s really coming along! I love those concrete vases too.

Thank you! Next time you come, you can shower there. Hopefully it will be done by then.
